Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has notified a new scheme to provide free heart surgery for the children who are suffering from heart problem. “Maryam Ki Masihaai” is a program designed to reach more than 5,000 children every year. The program would be transformational for many families (in particular the ones who cannot pay hefty bills for Cardiac Surgery). This program will also be beneficial for the kids out of Punjab province of Pakistan as well. This will see surgeries carried out in not just public, but also private hospitals as needed to deliver the program.
How the Program Works
Under the program, ‘free heart surgery Cards‘ are issued to their family. These cards will provide children with free surgeries in either a public or private hospital. Should a public hospital not have room, the program will organize for their therapy to happen in private hospitals. Surgical procedures will be conducted at six public hospitals, including the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) and Children’s Hospital in Lahore from Mayo-June. Similar facilitation would also be available in other hospitals of Multan, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi. The program will also grow to other locations as the project develops, such as Wazirabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Sargodha. “Maryam Ki Masihaai”

The first phase will subsequently be followed by the second level of the program to extend in other cities such as Wazirabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Sargodha at hospitals. Then a web-based dashboard will track the delivery of surgeries to ensure the program operates smoothly. This will help in easier tracking of surgeries and for families to locate the hospital that is nearest to them that would provide care to their child.
