Punjab: Relief For Drivers with Expired License

It’s been more than a year The Punjab government is making strenuous efforts to make the roads safer for the daily commuters. Following the interim government of Punjab, the current provincial administration is also taking steps to streamline and simplify the driving search process.

Relief for Expired License

After Stretching its services to the digital realm, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has brought a relief for the driver whose driver license has been expired. The government has abolished the increased fines imposed before January 16, 2024, on those whose license expired during this period.

That means people whose licenses expires before January 16, 2024, can renew them at the old fee rates only.

However, the new fee structure is applicable to license expiring on or after this date.Previously, these fines ranged from a substantial 75 to 500 rupees per year, causing financial burden to many.

Renew Driving License Online

To further ease the process, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Ammara Athar, announced that citizens can renew both international and regular licenses from the comfort of their homes or by visiting license offices.

While the government has extended this olive branch, CTO Athar has also emphasized that there will be no compromise on the crackdown against underage and unlicensed drivers.

Online Registration

Traffic police have also initiated an online service for the people to ease for them. The boon has been taken to ensure the licensing process easy and smooth because more people are now taking out licenses in the region.

Relatedly, a full-scale inquiry has been initiated by the neighboring province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regarding the scandal of having a fake international driving licenses.

.The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and a provincial committee will jointly probe the matter after Pakistani missions abroad discovered discrepancies in the records of licenses issued by the KP Transport Department.
